Get Your Food to Sell Itself With Food Packaging!
Next time you are in supermarket pop you head into the confectionery isle. I bet you’ll see wall to wall color – but why? Food packaging is why. There is very fierce competition in the confectionery market and if you don’t have brightly colored food packaging you’re going to get left behind.
This is only one of the reasons why food packaging is a critical part of any food product. Having great food is one thing but most people won’t buy it unless it is packaged nicely as well. Good food packaging is the key to having people buy and try your food.
Visual appeal isn’t the only reason you should have good food packaging. Most products put the features of the food on the packaging as well. Many add things like ‘baked not fried’ or ‘a great source of protein’. Its the perfect opportunity to promote the added benefits of eating your food – besides the great taste.
Food packaging is just about promoting your food’s benefits. Most countries have legal requirements for food packaging as well. Food content, ingredients and nutritional facts all need to be listed on the food packaging if it is to be sold in stores. Also all warnings about the food contained within should be printed on the packaging. This allows people who have specific allergies or dietary requirements to make decisions based off the food content.
Food packaging also offers the contents protection from the outside world. This allows for easy transportation and storage of the food without compromising its shape or presentation. This means that once its on shelves, it will still look nice and appealing to consumers.
Another important step is deciding what material your food should be packed in. Is it fit to be stored in boxes or does it need an airtight plastic bag? Should it be kept cold or out of direct sunlight?
Ultimately though, to make sure that you food survives the rigors of transportation and the handling by supermarket shelf slackers and yet still remain appealing to customers, you will find that food packing is your best friend.
