Perfect Coffee From the Perfect Grind
The worst thing for coffee, either ground or beans, is air. As soon as air reaches the coffee grinds it immediately starts to lose their flavor. Coffee manufacturers vacuum seal their grinds to keep them fresh while they sit on the shelves at the supermarket but once you break that seal, it’s all downhill from there. For great tasting coffee you simply need to grind your own coffee beans.
To ensure great tasting coffee grind your coffee beans right before you brew your coffee. Do you know the best way to grind your coffee? Knowing how to grind your coffee is an important step in making fantastic coffee.
The various types of coffee require different grind types and methods. So for the freshest best tasting ground coffee you need to grind the coffee beans yourself in the best manner possible.

Percolator/ French Press Coffee
If you plan on brewing your coffee with a percolator or a French Press coffee maker then you’ll need a coarser grind. Place the coffee beans in your coffee grinder and tap the grind button a few times as you would use the pulse feature on your food processor.
If the coffee beans have been broken up into small pieces then you have acheived your aim. If the ground coffee looks like powder then you have overdone it, get a new batch and start again. Just simply tap the button do not hold it done.
Automatic drip coffee makers
Automatic drip coffee makers work best with medium grinds. Picture in your mind (or look at if you have some in your cupboard) the coffee grinds that you would buy from the supermarket. Medium grinds are best in this situation. The ground coffee should have the texture and look of brown sand. Try and grind the coffee beans until it looks like brown sand. In this situation ensure that you do not get carried away and over grind the coffee beans. For best results in an automatic coffee machine the coffee must not be ground to fine.
Espresso maker
Finally if your using an espresso maker, you want those fine powdery grinds that you’ve been trying to avoid when making coarse and medium grinds. The finer the better so grind away until your heart is content. One of the best espresso coffee makers that we recommend is the Delonghi EC710
